Preaching on the prodigal son
Preaching Outline Luke 15:22-23 – “But the father said to his servants, “Bring quickly the best robe and clothe him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet, and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry.”
Introduction to Luke 15:22-23
This was a sublime moment, one of great expectation. The father had waited a long time for this moment, even longer than his son. What a moment of such happiness! The son returning to his father, to his rule, to his dominion, the son was being born again, leaving the old man behind. The father didn’t even listen to what the son had to say. The father, my brothers, had a plan for his son. He uses an expression: DEPRESS!
Development
We are living in a time when the Holy Spirit has worked Salvation, where many are turning to the Lord, to his project of Salvation. My brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit has carried out a great Work: lives are being saved. It is man who has left the acorns of the pigs and gone down the path of obedience. The Father is receiving all those who come on the path of obedience, all those who come to their senses, and before man speaks or thinks, the Father already has a project: the best clothes, the ring and the sandal. DEPRESS!
“Behold, I come (without delay, quickly): Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7
The Father is in a hurry! Jesus is coming soon. Only he (the Father) knows the day and the hour. He orders his angels (at every service) to bring the best clothes quickly. Not just any clothes. It’s not the garment of materialism, the garment of Jezebel’s heavy burden, it’s not the garment of philosophy. What is the best garment? That of an heir – a son.
The Father wants to clothe the man who, in this last hour, repents with the garment of the brief, the garment of a son, of an heir, of one who will inherit the Kingdom. He wants to baptize with the Holy Spirit, to prepare man for the rapture. Hurry! This is the time of the brief. The time when the Father wants to prepare those who repent and are born again for the rapture.
Why didn’t Dad order the ring and sandal before the best outfit? Why the best clothes first? Because that’s what the son needed first: to change his clothes. What man needs first is to change his life, to come out of the darkness into the Light. Light, you see, means having the lamp lit, being prepared for the rapture, having the best clothes.
That’s what the Father wants
“After these things I looked, and behold, a multitude which no one could number, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb in white robes with palms in their hands.” Revelation 7:9
Conclusion of Luke 15:22-23
Only after seeing his redeemed people, the number of those who will be saved complete, only after seeing those who will be saved with the best clothes, then it is time to say: “…let us eat and be merry…”
“Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb is coming, and his wife has made herself ready.” Revelation 19:7
Father is in a hurry to dress you in the best clothes. Wear DEPRESSION!
