Preaching Outline on I Timothy 5:23 – “Do not continue to drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent illnesses.”
The apostle Paul, with his vast ministerial experience, advises young Timothy on how to conduct his life and ministry. Amidst the practical advice, we find this peculiar recommendation: “use a little wine”. Although at first glance it seems like a literal suggestion, a deeper analysis reveals a crucial spiritual meaning for all God’s servants.
The joy of God’s servant is different from the superficial joy of the world. It is deep, lasting and based on the certainty of salvation and communion with God. It is a joy that enables us to face difficulties, persevere in faith and infect the world with the hope of the Gospel. May we, as God’s servants, drink of the wine of joy and overflow this joy in our lives and ministries!
